Pathways of Human Mind's Development and
Present-Day Factors Obstructing It
Many of us must have pondered: "What is the true capacity of our mind, how far can it develop?" Since neuron production can speed up or slow down, the question of how much we can develop the boundaries of our brain in our lifetime if it occurs at maximum speed is a crucial one. In this context, is the size of our skull related to this possibility? Considering the tiny presence of neurons, it is actually difficult to draw a boundary on the neuron-carrying capacity of a standard skull. Thus, in reality, our brain's capacity is far beyond the capacity of classic computer disks. Our brain can develop infinitely, to the extent that we undertake developmental work on it. Neuron production alone doesn't mean much, but every data pathway can be modeled with neurons. Therefore, one can actually say we possess minds with infinite capacity.
So, what are the factors that restrict this in our day?
This subject sits in a very important place. Actually, we, as current people, generally focus on a single subject heading and are in search of Adequate Information. When we discover an unknown detail of the subject we focus on, we cut off the information flow at that point by saying, "Let me not start another subject at all while I have yet to fully learn this one." Whereas, in fact, if we tried to learn as much as we could about every subject, we would have applied a more effective learning strategy. Looking at it from this angle, if we maximize neuron production and try to assimilate more subjects, it will be seen that we actually possess far greater capacity.
Well, how far can our brain develop if it does everything right?
The point where this subject finds its response lies concealed within the life and behavioral patterns of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). God made the Prophet's mind function at full capacity, and this is why the Sunnah are very important; namely, the Sunnah are truly critical as they show what behavioral logic a brain functioning at full capacity can move with in which circumstances. That is to say, even if we do not live the exact conditions Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) lived, we can apply the exact logic and methodology of them within the axis of the Sunnah to practice in our lives the behavioral patterns expected from someone using brain capacity at an infinite level.
Within this scope, the true learning and transmission of the Sunnah holds an important place. Therefore, the Hadiths upon which there is consensus are valuable from this aspect as well.
So, if we were to make a brain pyramid, while Prophet Muhammad's (PBUH) brain was purified of all deficiencies, our brains are in a continuous development process with the information we add. From this viewpoint, it is important to give weight to every subject.
